Vanillaware’s delightful Odin Sphere, the second in their series of 2D side-scrolling action RPGs, is going to be shown at this month’s Tokyo Game Show event. Remastered for HD goodness, PlayStation owners are going to be in for a treat when the game hits next year.
I feel a bit daft for missing the news about this in July, but there’s never a bad time to celebrate a game by Vanillaware. The remaster is apparently going to receive some significant tweaks to the original systems and gameplay, so in some respects it’s a mechanical remaster as well as a visual one. For those who played the original, there’s also the option to play it with the original mechanics without the tweaks apparently.
No word yet on if the game will get an English translation, but given Vanillaware’s last few games have made it across the pond, one can only hope the same will happen with Odin Sphere. The release is going to cover PlayStation 3, 4 and Vita, so it will be interesting to see if there will only be selected platforms covered for a localisation.
I’m hopeful that if this proves commercially successful Muramasa will follow for the PS4, and if I’m to put my fanboy hat on, it would be amazing if Princess Crown gets ported over in English too. I imagine that’d make it be much easier than when I played through it in Japanese 16 or 17 years ago on my Saturn!
